Fire claims three lives as Lynn fire rages through Hutchinson and Clark buildings

In Lynn on February 13, within two hours of ignition three firemen died as walls collapsed after an explosion that also destroyed two primary buildings. Seven firefighters were injured while crews, including police and out of town links, battled the blaze with steamers and railroad water lines. Losses exceed $100,000. Hutchinson hardware stock and Clark estate shoe and secondhand furniture stores were wiped out.

Fire tragedy at Boston building collapse claims eleven lives

Rescuers battled flames to pull eleven men from the ruins including Captain Henry Skinner of Chemical 1 and John Donlan of Engine 3. Several others are missing or expected to die, while crowds from Boston and beyond hampered efforts and trains were stopped.

Lynn feb 14 john leach owner of the fish market burned out and missing at this hour with five hundred dollars loss. A fireman named fisher is also unheard from. Bodies may lie in the ruins as the fire is extinguished.

A blaze began at 8 10 in Hutchinsons hardware store on Munroe street between Washington and Market. The Broad street engine responded immediately, found no sign of fire until flames erupted in the basement, prompting a second alarm at 8 15 as firefighters rushed to control a rapidly spreading blaze threatening a large Lynn area.

Seven Firefighters Rescued as Hutchinson Building Fire Rages

Fire tore through the Hutchinson building and adjacent Clark estate in Lynn, trapping seven injured firefighters who were rescued and hospitalized. Deaths were moved to Landers's lunch room, with identities confirmed, as workers feared further bodies. Lynn's Great Fire of 1889 Devastates City

Lynn, February 13. Fires have been frequent in this city. On Tuesday forenoon November 26, 1889, a devastating blaze began in Mower's wooden block on Almont Street. It swept a square mile of the business district, destroying about 5 million dollars in property and leaving over 1,000 people homeless. The four daily newspaper offices Item, Journal, and others were ruined.
