The Cambridge City Guard Company B Fifth Regiment held its annual dinner at the armory in Brazile Square Cambridge last evening. Guests included General Edgar R Champlin on behalf of State Mayor Bancroft, Adjutant Ballard Majors Oakes and Benyon Lt Wade Captain Westcott and others from Companies G E K A L, Tenth US Infantry Fourth US Artillery and regimental chaplain S J Barrows among society and aldermen attendees.

Father and Son thwart a burglary during Dock Square shootout
Frank Martin, 19, a self admitted burglar, tried to shoot Frederick G. Doell and his son Fred H. Doell during a stairway confrontation after a Dock Square gun shop break in. Martin shot himself in the right elbow, was captured, and charged with assault with intent to kill and two counts of breaking and entering. Doells aided by police and transported to hospital. Detained for confessions linking last Friday’s thefts at Doell and Leonard shops.

Fire Rages Through Newton & Boston Car House
A major blaze destroyed the Newton & Boston Street Railway car house on Walnut street Newtonville, burning eight open cars and a box car, plus the building and extensive electrical equipment. Firefighters under Chief Rawlett saved offices and part of the stables. casualties included the assistant superintendent’s family who were burned out. The loss is estimated around $30,000, insured, with rebuilding planned.
