Pamphlet on B and M issued by National Shawmut Bank
The National Shawmut Bank issued a pamphlet on the Boston and Maine highlighting its minimal capital, the vast regional rail system it supports, and the risk to the Northeast if it fails. It argues the line must earn capital to attract funds and warns against punishing innocent security purchasers amid disputed facts about the railroad’s development and regulation.
