Campaign committee led by John F. McDonald reports total receipts of 27926.60 and payments of 27926.60 with unpaid bills of 9714.21. Mayor John TF Fitzgerald or linked campaign bodies are not required to cover the outstanding debt. The overall campaign cost amounts to 37640.81, including 10500 by the mayor to date.
Yesterday the last day to file statements under the corrupt practices act, with 30 days after the election to file, saw Mayor Fitzgerald as the sole mayoral candidate to complete his campaign committee accounts. Ward committees also filed, while Storrow and Municipal League groups were silent. The mayor’s filing, delayed until 5 pm, revealed payments to prominent Fitzgerald backers and substantial contributions from others, including his brother James T. Fitzgerald who gave 5596.60. John F. Mac Donald and William F. Fitzgerald each contributed 2000, C. G. Fitzgerald 1500, and John H. Lee, William F. McClellan, and Edward P. Clark 1000 each.

Dr Jivde surrendered quietly after learning a warrant was sought and waited with his lawyers for the prose cutors. He submitted to arrest without hearing the warrant. In Independence Missouri Dr Hyde appeared before Justice W F Loar and pleaded not guilty. He was released on $50,000 bond with a preliminary hearing set for February 17.
Miss Eleanor Butler Alexander, 21, the daughter of Mrs. Henry Addison Alexander of 42 West Forty seventh street, announced, is engaged to Theodore Roosevelt Jr., eldest son of Colonel and Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt. The Alexander family formerly well known New York lawyers now reside in Paris where Henry Addison Alexander serves as counsel for the American embassy.
Miss Alexander, active in the junior league two years ago, helped host a Plaza entertainment and traveled with her mother to Europe. The couple’s wedding is not set until Colonel Roosevelt returns from Africa mid June, with Miss Roosevelt, the groom’s sister, a frequent visitor at the White House.
Vice-President Timothy S. Byrnes of the New Haven railroad outlined plans for a vast monopoly and announced a $50,000,000 expenditure over 10 years. He promised electrification of suburban lines and a Washington street tunnel link, while denying violations of Commonwealth laws and urging expert inquiry into the railroad sector.
Willian B. Lawrence, representing minority stockholders, reviewed the history of relations between the State and the New Haven as part of the Boston and Maine case.
Arthur B. Glover testified in East Cambridge Probate Court that Mrs. Lillian Marie Glover threatened to shoot her husband, and his brother Clarence described a miserable home life in Waltham. The commission asked the Mayor to specify birth details for Commissioner Gallivan including birthplace and date, his schooling including each institution and years, offices held, occupations, writings related to duties, and his special qualifications. Mayor Fitzgerald is coordinating, obtaining data from Gallivan who is currently at home in South Boston.
A 4 30 am blaze destroyed Lawrence and Stanley's garage at Columbia road and Hancock street in Upham's Corner. As gasoline ignited, miniature explosions occurred and neighbors fled in fear. Firefighters and police hauled out several autos while nearby apartments emptied.
A fire at 397 Cambridge street East Cambridge early today left four people overcome by smoke. Police forced entry to the second floor and found Antonio Freitas, his wife, and two lodgers unconscious in their beds, all carried outside through heavy smoke.
A fire in Freitas store on the street floor was found by a patrolman at 1:50. After signaling Box 126 and several rescues, officers forced entry to reach occupants. Fire began from an overheated basement furnace. Loss estimated at $1000.
Mrs Katherine Kelly of 4 Franklin Place Somerville saved her year old daughter Evelyn from a stove fire by stripping burning garments from the child. Her own hands were badly seared as she fought the flames before others arrived. The child sustained serious burns to the limbs.
Chicago February 10 coroner's jury verdict finds Aloise Wilkowski 21 killed by a blow in a prize fight at Harry Gilmore's boxing academy. Jury recommends grand jury indictment for opponent Joseph McCarthy on manslaughter charge. Gilmore promoters and seconds urged for prosecution after Wilkowski died following a ferocious 10 round bout.
