Stock Market Buoyancy Fades As Prices Slip Late

The stock market opened buoyant with broad gains but toward the close a retreat pulled down several securities from their highs. Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe rose to 43 then fell to 74, Chicago Burlington and Quincy reached 121 then eased, Union Pacific moved to 50 then settled near 50, and Flint and Pere Marquette stayed steady around 15. January earnings for Flint and Pere Marquette dropped 15,000 dollars, about 25 percent, with monthly decline totaling 42,000 dollars or 22 percent. Little Rock and Fort Smith rose to 25, Wisconsin Central moved to 123, and Pullman touched 4a dollars.
