In Cuarspeare West Virginia on February 8 Rev John T Johnson recounts a consumptive youth's death near death, hell vision, and revival then another death after living religion. Witnesses say the young man awoke, spoke of a yawning pit with fires, and clung to a thread before returning to life. He later died in his Saviors arms after directing his burial.
Fourteen officers and clerks of the Louisiana State lottery were arrested in New Orleans for violation of the anti lottery tax law. Indictments were returned by the United States grand jury in Hartford Connecticut. They were arraigned before the U S Court and released on bond.
Cardinal Gibbons told a Boston committee he is honored by their presentation of John Boyle O Reilly’s bust to Catholic University. He expresses deep interest in the university and plans to preside at a Boston meeting to raise funds for a monument to O Reilly if feasible.
Paris reports American minister Whitelaw Reid, who was recovering from influenza, has a relapse. No fears are entertained for his condition, according to dispatches from the capital.
At 11 o clock yesterday morning Miss Emily Munroe of 208 Tremont street tried to take her own life using morphine obtained from a drug store nearby. Dr Burgess attended her, pronounced her out of danger, and left her in the care of the house residents. No reason for the act is given.
