Colonel James Sexton Dies in Washington
Colonel James A. Sexton, commander in chief of the Grand Army of the Republic, died at Garfield Hospital in Washington at 8 15 this morning. Born January 5 1844 in Chicago he served as Civil War captain and regimental commander later on staff to General A J Smith. He retired from business in 1897 and had served as Chicago postmaster elected G A R commander in 1890 and held numerous civic affiliations. His widow and nine children survived.
