Chicago February 3. The arrest of six men, with one said to admit guilt, exposed the theft of a mail pouch at an interurban station of the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific railroad. About $1700 in cash and securities worth around $35,000 were taken a week earlier.
New York magistrate ruled today that girls who marry under sixteen cannot be forced to stay in school. Magistrate Charles N. Harris said husbands are entitled to have their wives at home, ruling on a Board of Education case.
Health Commissioner William C. Woodward announced yesterday that three new sleeping sickness cases were reported in the hub. He also noted five fatal cases were recorded by the department during the past month.
The Jordan Marsh Company celebrated its Quarter Century Club with a banquet for about 260 members and guests at the Avon street annex. A new Forty Year Associates group formed, honoring long service since 1871 to 1872.
