Providence R I Dec 30 a fourth large lumber fire in four months broke out at about 9 pm in a shingle shed of H A Grimwood & Co at 1163 Westminster street. The blaze spread to seven of nine storage sheds and to adjacent yards of L Vaughan & Co. Estimated loss 100000 insured. Grimwood losses about 70000 Vaughan about 30000.

Two Brothers Rescued From Mill Pond Drowning

While skating on Mill Pond Dorchester two brothers John and James Ryan aged 13 and 11 fell through thin ice. Local 13-year-old Thomas McMahon of 44 Leonard Street saved them, diving in to grasp the older boy and pull both to safety. He said he did not hesitate and swam to solid ice.

Nichols Dead on Mud Flats Near Craigie's Bridge

The body found in mud flats at East Cambridge end of Craigie’s bridge was identified as George W. Nichols, a 65 year old Reading jeweller. Harbin's Death Linked to Alive First Wife Claim

Thomas Harbin, 82, an Englishman living in Braintree, leapt from the steamer Indian near Boston to Philadelphia, amid belief his first wife in England is alive and that his recent marriage here might be at risk.
