Canal Fire Panic at New England Sanitarium

A $35,000 blaze at the New England Sanitarium on Spot Pond in Stoneham imperiled 25 patients many disabled. Nurses and doctors evacuated patients in smoke filled halls while still aiding those unable to move. Survivors include Alfred Chapman of New Brunswick Mrs J McConnell of Boston and seven year old Winfield Larrabee of Block Island Conn.
