Masonic Toasts Mark Christmas Observance by Knights Templars

Knights Templars across Boston held noon Christmas toasts on December 26 in Roxbury and other sites. The Most Eminent Grand Master Reuben Hedley Lloyd was hailed in toasts praising unity, truth, and brotherly love. Em inent Sir Edmund E. Davis led speeches at Roxbury while Olivet Chapter in Boylston Street hosted a large social with 800 covers and a toast to Sovereign Grand Commander Henry L. Palmer.

Chelsea Royal Arch Toast Honors Late Amasa Whitcomb

Chelsea Masons gathered in Masonic Hall for the first annual Christmas greeting of the Shekinah Royal Arch Chapter. About 300 Masons and guests heard toasts to Whitcomb and seven other deceased companions, with readings, poems, and the singing of Auld Lang Syne. A noon meeting of Palestine Commandery Knights Templars joined in a toast to the grand master.

Wards of the City and State Enjoy Christmas Observance

Christmas observances were held across city and state institutions. State Prison Charlestown hosted Melba concert company performances and a special dinner. House of Correction South Boston served roast pork with yard time and Vedette Orchestra entertainment. Deer Island featured local talent and a prime dinner. City Hospital provided a Christmas tree for wards with children and gifts from the Deaconesses' Home plus flowers at major hospitals.

Ice House Collapse Injures Three at Sandy Pond

A Boston Ice Company ice house under construction at Sandy Pond collapsed this morning trapping three workers. Philip Walsh suffered a spinal fracture, James Lantin broke his right leg and sustained severe bruising, foreman George M. Crawford was injured, several other workers narrowly escaped.

Christmas Sailors' Haven Feast in Charlestown

About 400 sailors filled the Christmas spread at Sailors' Haven, 46 Water Street, Charlestown, served by the Episcopal City Mission. A turkey dinner at 6 p.m. followed by a program featured local performers while volunteers handed out mittens caps mufflers and scarves. The morning gift rounds reached hospital sailors with presents.

Soldiers' Christmas Dinner At Chelsea Home

Inmates at the Soldiers' Home in Chelsea enjoyed a lavish Christmas dinner with turkey duck chicken and ample sides. An evening entertainment by Nutter's Orchestra followed by gift distribution from the Ladies' Aid Association complemented the meal. Manila dispatch reports the revolutionary congress at Malolos adjourned due to the difficulty of drafting a constitution. Aguinaldo’s cabinet, named at Bacoor on July 15, has resigned. Grip In Chelsea Causes Widespread Illness

Victim of Gas Fatality in Dorchester

William S. McKelvey, 60, a Dorchester resident, died from accidental gas exposure at 8 Landsdowne Street. He had been staying with Frederic Upton at 6 Rosemont Terrace. A second gas cock connected to a stove was accidentally turned on, entrapping him in a room filled with gas.

The Boston Y M C A plans a moonlight cross country run tomorrow at 9 PM and a dual meet with Cambridge Y M C A on Monday January 9 featuring events such as a twenty yard dash high jumps shot put rope climb and potato race. Derelict schooner S. Flint abandoned in late December storm

From New York Sterald: The New York bound schooner S. Flint from Ship Island was abandoned by her crew on Way 27 during a great storm. After two days at sea the men were rescued by the steamer Tyr and reached Sharpness. The Orinoco later found the wreck and its British passenger Colonel Talton photographed the drifting derelict.
