Miss Laura DeWolf twenty five of Hotel Waquoit Columbus avenue and Miss Grace Grimes of 45 Orchard street were riding in a Boston Cab when the horse bolted on Commonwealth avenue. The cab driver John Briggs escaped injury. DeWolf died from a neck fracture after being thrown from the cab. Grimes jumped free and returned home.
Seven year old James Connelly of 115 Day Street Jamaica Plain was riding a Tremont Street Jamaica Plain horse car last evening when he fell. A wheel ran over his leg, crushing it and likely requiring amputation. He was taken to City Hospital for treatment.

At 10 14 last evening fire was discovered in a two story brick building at Rutherford avenue and Furbush square Charlestown owned by the Furbush heirs and occupied by Furbush Co as a lard factory. At 11 15 last evening alarm from Box 13 for a fire at 217 Hanover street occupied by Mary J Houghton and owned by Charles Cram. Damage 50 caused by kerosene lamp upset.

Chicago December 24 Republican State chairman Jones announced notices to contest the seating of five Democratic State Senators elect. The targets are Noonan Caldwell Arnold Dawkins and Coppinger based on alleged vote buying and office promises, Dawkins allegedly ineligible due to foreign birth. The move follows a split legislature with three Farmers' Alliance members holding balance.
In Original Packages Philadelphia December 24 Judge Read declares the cleomargarine law unconstitutional in Commonwealth v George Paul. The jury found the defendant obtained oleomargarine from a Chicago firm, sold in ten pound or larger original packages. US law and federal commerce rights over imported merchantable goods prevail. Pennsylvania act May 2 1885 prohibiting sale cannot apply, so Paul is not guilty.
