A puzzling Christmas offer proposes a life lasting gift for fathers. The fragment describes a special eighteenth century Flemish style mirror and cabinet with concealed castors, bevelled glass, French bead moulding, and adjustable screws. It includes rooms for medicines, shaving utensils, jewelry, and large drawers for shirts and more. It is priced at 205.
Reports from Fort Bennett indicate Big Foot and about 100 of Sitting Bull’s braves are marching toward the post under escort. Captain Hearst’s company offered peace terms. weapons refused and threatened massacre. Seven more companies arrived the next day and welfare arms were surrendered to permit game use. The prisoners will go to Fort Bennett then Standing Rock. In Red Cloud’s camp police arrest M C Hopkins Nashua Iowa claiming peace mission.
Multiple vessels arrive or depart from Boston Baltimore New York Liverpool Hull Valparaiso and other ports in late December. A dated ad from 160 Tremont Street promotes a New Home Sewing Machine as a top gift for wives and daughters. It offers a bonus: Kris Kringle provides a $5 doll to each little girl whose mother buys the machine, and mentions a weather note on Page 2.
In Kilkenny, a bitter clash unfolds as Parnell and allies await the election result with police guarding the counting room. Final tally shows Hennessy 2527 and Scully 1356, prompting Scully to lodge a petition alleging priestly influence over Castle Comer voters.
After the sheriff announced the poll results in North Kilkenny, Parnellites lifted Charles Parnell on their shoulders and cheered, while Timothy and Maurice Healy faced threatening crowds. Police escorted the Healys away to avert violence as Parnell resumed his speech, pledging to persevere and fight every election.
Cusum Dec 23 report describes friendly demonstrations in towns from Kilkenny to Dublin as Charles Parnell addresses crowds. He says the fight has not been fair and electors were misled, contends Davitt Stead conspiracy aims to undermine the Irish movement, and vows to expose their methods. At a meeting in Dupin on December 23 William M. Murphy chaired the session and stated that Parnell had disregarded Ireland s voice. The committee resolved to stop him in his mad career by all lawful means and to start a daily morning newspaper edited by Mr O’Brien to counter his influence.

Despatch from Pernambuco reports the Hamburg ship Libussa collided with and sank the British vessel Talookdar, which was en route from Calcutta to London. The Talookdar’s captain and twenty-two crew members drowned.

New York dispatch reports Messrs Dillon and O'Connor, the last envoys left in the city, offered brief remarks on the Kilkenny election. They expressed pleasure at the result and noted the majority. The exact figures were not disclosed.
Boston dispatch reports the Guilford Shore Line train derailed near Leet Island due to spreading rails, ten cars including three passenger coaches plunged down a ten foot embankment but no deaths. One woman severely cut, conductor and brakeman injured. trains delayed. A second wreck on the Western New York and Pennsylvania line at Watsonville toppled two passenger cars and a baggage car from an eight foot trestle after rail spread. twenty one of thirty eight passengers injured. Names include Mrs James Blake, conductor Edward Jones, A C Robinson, L H Galencia, and J Reynolds. A relief train aided the injured.
Fanny Davenport’s Cleopatra at the Fifth Avenue Theatre tonight delivered a magnificent production with superb scenery and an unusually impressive ensemble. Davenport’s acting met expectations and, in some parts, was finely dramatic though not soul stirring.
New York December 28. The Tariff Reform Club banquet celebrated Democratic victories as a vindication of reform principles. About 500 guests attended including ex President Cleveland and Governor-elect Russell. Everett P Wheeler presided and urged Reform Club work, noting expenses and opposition faced. Cleveland received a silver cup commemorating Jefferson, presented amid cheers.

Smokeless powder is being manufactured at the U S torpedo station in Newport under a new form by Professor E Munroe the government chemist. Early experiments show enhanced explosive power with ten grains driving a bullet twenty inches into pine while seventy grains of ordinary powder reach only fourteen inches.
