In North Adams on December 23, Nancy Worcester, aged over 95, was found frozen to death in her single room dwelling. A grocery clerk discovered the body. She lived alone, had little food or clothing, and survived on a $100 yearly benefit. Medical examiner believes a fainting fall while tending a feeble fire caused her death.

In Middletown Connecticut on December 3 eight patients at the Connecticut Hospital for the Insane are missing after a fire destroyed the Farm building.
