Arthur E ba Abbott, a Marine Corps sergeant and son of a Atlantic family, stole 15000 from Federal Trust Company two and a half years ago and vanished. A country wide manhunt followed as details of lavish private living emerged, including a deserted wife and child. The district attorney favors probation after his return and service.

Watchman Shot by Burglars at Cambridge National Biscuit Plant

Night watchman Daniel Whitlock was shot four times by burglars surprised during a break in at the factory office on Albany street. Other shots were fired as the intruders fled. Whitlock was wounded but expected to live. The incident was reported to have occurred shortly before midnight.

Train Hits Auto Injuring Nine at Crossing in Manchester

A Boston and Maine eastbound train struck an automobile at a crossing in Manchester. Nine people were injured. a woman and a four year old boy were believed fatally hurt. The car was carried 30 yards on the cowcatcher. most occupants remained in the vehicle except a boy who was thrown from the car.

Auto Truck Fatality Strikes Two Children on Washington Street

A delivery truck with a broken steering gear ran amuck near 744 Washington Street, killing 10 year old Elizabeth Lannigan of 8 Fayette Street and seriously injuring her friend Mary Hartnett of the same address. Driver Thomas Fahey, from Dorchester, tried to turn around while delivering Christmas gifts. the truck left the curb, struck the children, and crashed into a window before police stopped it. Both girls were taken to Haymarket Relief Hospital. Lannigan died last night.

The second Pan American Congress, set to open in Washington, has been deferred one week. Secretary Glass of the Treasury Department sent the telegram confirming the delay, according to officials in St. Louis.

Fire destroys Moncton tramway car barn. watchman dead

A fire in Moncton early today destroyed the Tramway Electric and Gas car barn and machine shop with property valued at $50,000. Grant Toole, a watchman from Calhoun, N.B., was killed and the Moncton street railway was temporarily out of service.

Blaze Drives 30 to Street at Slade Mansion Fire

A blaze at the Slade mansion on Elmwood avenue in Providence drove 30 residents into the street in bed clothing and rugs. Two alarms were sounded, losses estimated at 10000. The landmark, built in the 1870s by George H. Slade, stood back from Elmwood and Reservoir avenues and later became an apartment building.
