New Yankee Recruit Fred Herche Shines in Binghamton Pennant Run

Fred Herche, a new pitcher from Binghamton in the New York State league, impressed scouts and manager Stallings with a stellar 31 game stint. New York December 23 reports Princeton defeated Harvard in the second round of the 22d annual intercollegiate chess tournament to seize the lead from Cambridge. Results show Princeton 2 1 2 over Harvard 11 2 and Columbia 2 1 2 over Yale 1 1 2 with only Columbia remaining to face Princeton in the final round.

Federal League offers Joe Tinker 40 000 to stay with Chicago

Chicago December 23 The Federal League offers Joseph Tinker a three year 40 000 contract to manage the Chicago Federal club, delaying his sale to Brooklyn via Cincinnati. Tinker favors remaining in Chicago and the Cubs would need to acquire him to stay in the National League. Gilmore aims to close the deal and announce next Monday a list of former NL and AL players joining the Federals.
