Say Schmidt Is Paranoid Trial Testimony

New York dispatch reports alienists for the defense testified at Hans Schmidt’s murder trial that he is paranoid and insane at the time of the crime. Doctors White Cotton Jelliffe and Gregory described Schmidt’s six year aberration as incurable and his act as a commanded sacrifice. The examination continues as the case resumes.

Quincy Fires Suspect Confessed as City Probes Blaze Epidemic

A spate of arson across a half square mile in Quincy caused terror as fires raged at the Furbush residence, Betteney cottage, a bath house, the Seal Rock Inn, and more. Police, Metropolitans, and citizens chased suspects, culminating in the arrest of 21 year old Whitaker who confessed to him and an accomplice starting the blazes. Trial set for this morning.

Santa Visits 123 Cripples at St Botolph Street School

Santa Claus visited the St Botolph Street school yesterday afternoon bringing cheer to 123 disabled children. A large Christmas tree illuminated the room as teachers and a pupil played carols. The kids wore elf costumes, sang, danced, and received gifts including oranges candy cake ice cream and toys amid festive play and no lessons all day.

Police Heads Are Suspended In Everett

Chief of Police William E. Hill and Captain John Brown were suspended by Mayor James Chambers for alleged neglect of duty after failing to send an ambulance to a fatally injured man answering a call from S A Wallace of the Everett General Electric plant. Wallace called the response "inhuman" though police say an ambulance was sent but arrived late. The chief argues private ambulances are used for plant calls.

Desperado sealed in Utah Apex mine awaits Christmas

Ralph Lopez, who killed six men, is believed sealed inside the Utah Apex mine near Bingham. Since December 4, bulkheads block the tunnel mouths and no sounds have emerged, hinting he remains trapped until after Christmas.

Miss Ross a long time stenographer in John Hancock Life Insurance Company died when an elevator she entered on the 10th floor stalled at the 9th and she became jammed between the car and shaft. Officials worked to recover the body and her father is George A. Ross of the post office money order division.

The Quebec extension railway company won approval from Maine officials to build a 110 mile line from Caribou to a point above Megantic. It links a proposed St John New Brunswick to Quebec route, crossing northern Maine near the New Brunswick border.

Nine tenths of telegraphers on the St. Louis San Francisco voted by telegraph for a strike over wage and eight hour day refusals by receivers. If called, about 1200 workers across the Frisco system would be affected including station agents despatchers and operators.

Two highwaymen entered Mrs. Katie Fisher's Third Avenue home at 8:30 this morning seeking a robbery. When she resisted, they forced a bottle’s contents down her throat, rendering her unconscious until late afternoon. Police issued a general alarm for the assailants.
