Mayor Fitzgerald used the King of England s royal cutter for personal use and left the King and Queen waiting on a landing. Sir Thomas Lipton accompanied the mayor and city officials on a harbor trip where the matter was noted.
Sir Thomas recalls a Cowes regatta anecdote where the Erin hosted Americans including Martin Littleton of New York. He notes the royal cutter approached and predicted a visit by either the King or Queen, sparking a flurry among guests and stoking the mayor's prestige.
Mrs. Dora Zieman of Dorchester reported two diamonds worth 600 dollars missing Monday night after planning to guard them in a small black box. The jewels were first sought at the theatre and pawn shops, then recovered about three hours later near the family route at Glenway street and Blue Hill avenue where a tiny black box containing the stones was found.
George Bird aged 75 dean of hub waiters was found dead in his room at 82 Corning street South Find. He had pneumonia and had been aided by wealthy patrons including General Bancroft and Mabel Abbott of Watertown. He made many friends among guests and visitors, with no known relatives.
President elect Wilson, speaking at a New York banquet, warned against deliberate panics to undermine new Democratic economic policies. He distinguished natural from unnatural panics and vowed a public disgrace as punishment for anyone who uses machinery to cause financial hysteria.
The governor states America will not panic and urges citizens to act with honor. He notes leadership on the United States, calls for emancipation of the poor, and insists on business oriented governance over etiquette. He warns that public opinion matters, seeks right actions, and views panic as a state of mind affecting economic policy.
J Pierpont Morgan arrived in Washington to answer a subpena and testify before the House banking and currency committee investigating the money trust. He planned to take the stand soon, likely Thursday, with Samuel Untermyer guiding the inquiry. A party of about twenty accompanied him from New York, and his daughter Anne Morgan joined him at the station.
In a hotel gathering the Morgan party including J P Morgan & Co partners and counsel refused visitor access. Samuel Untermyer said the money trust inquiry will proceed in order and begin with the concentration of money and credits. Several witnesses will be examined tomorrow after a mass of statistical material is entered into the records.

Joseph Salus, missing 12 years and living in Chicago and the West, returned to his sister’s home on Harris Street Webster and was assaulted. He was struck in the eye, punched in the nose, and kicked down stairs, narrowly avoiding arrest as a burglar.
Salus arrived by trolley from Worcester at the Sak residence and embraced Mrs Sak. Mr Sak struck him twice, and Salus was dragged down stairs before police arrived. Mrs Sak then recognized the voice from an upper window, revealing he was her brother. Salus was treated for wounds at the scene.
Coroners jury investigated the death of Miss Suella Marshall who was murdered on the outskirts of Trenton on December 3. They reported today they could not identify the assailant.
A startling blast shattered windows on the rear court of Ridgely Claverly Ridgely Annex and Claverly senior dormitories on Harvard's gold coast. Cambridge police opened an investigation as stormy weather and pre holiday initiations were noted in the area.
At 11 30 PM an explosion shattered dormitory windows in Cambridge, sending students sprinting into the court half clad. Smoke filled the halls while in Claverly room 8S Hayden Clarke and G P Post found their space a wreck with books and bric a brac overturned.
Charles Sullivan aged five pulled his 3 year old friend James Roche from marsh water near Orient Heights bridge in East Boston. The rescued boy was wet to the neck and frightened while the savior needed a physician after his own swim. Both boys survived and are expected to recover.
Salem returns total shows John F Hurley elected mayor by a 220 vote margin for a three year term under the new commission form. He pledged honesty and fearlessness, noting Salem will mark a Fourth of July celebration unseen since his prior terms and promising a new patriotic display.
Paris sale notes that Durand-Ruel bought Degas The Dancers at the Bar for 87000 at the Rouart collection session and acted for Mrs Sarah C Sears of Boston, revealed by a New York dispatch.
The collector refused to name his client at purchase time, with the woman suspected to be Mrs. Frederick Havemeyer. The canvas carried a 40 000 valuation as Durand-Ruel battled a female buyer intent on gifting the work to the Louvre. The Louvre’s Rouart heirs had urged a high bid and Durand-Ruel refused to back down despite an unlimited commission from America to outbid rivals.
In supporters words John F. was on the job defeating William S. Felton for the second time by a smaller but decisive margin. He will chair public safety with full control of police and fire. Four other department directors join him: Charles H. Danforth finance, P. J. Kelley public works, Wallace L. Clifford public property, and William H. Colbert public health.
Police Inspector George W. McClusky died after a three month illness at age 52. A longtime New York City detective bureau leader, he rose to captain within five years, faced later demotion, and began another ascent in 1896.
