A child saw a woman stumble through smoke in a darkened tenement at 9 Greenwich Place Dorchester last evening. The boy rolled the woman in a rug, extinguishing the flames, and then sought further aid.
Mary Ann Tivenan, 13, of 9 Greenwich Place Dorchester, crawled through smoke to reach the burning tenement above. She twice climbed the stairs unaided and on a final act pulled a heavy carpet over the flames, smothering the woman's blazing hair and wrapping it to stop the fire.
Mary, though small and breathless in choking smoke, ran to fetch her mother for aid, then yelled fire across the yard and had a boy summon a police ambulance from a nearby store. Mrs. Murray was rushed to City Hospital as officials continued the report on page 4-7.
A double wedding in Somerville was prevented when Frank McCorkle of 113 Heath Street refused to sign for his 19 year old son William J to wed 17 year old Sarah B. Maclean of 47 Fremont Street. The Maclean family dispute halted the ceremony.

Mr Whitney reportedly absent from Milton where he lives with his mother and brother Charles H Whitney. He is believed to be in New York where the former countess visits. Charles H Whitney wed Miss Colette Dumaresq on June 21, his brother was best man. In April 196 Alice Copley Thaw married the Earl of Yarmouth, later annulled in favor of the American bride.
The woman inherited $200,000 a year from the late William Thaw. Multiple causes were offered for the annulment, including reports that her husband opposed her presence at Harry Thaw's trial.
Will Carleton the poet and journalist died at his Brooklyn home tonight after a short illness from pneumonia. Born in Hudson Michigan in 1845 he became editor of the Detroit Tribune in 1870 and published his first book Over the Hills to the Poor House. He later edited Everywhere magazine and lectured nationwide. He married Adora Niles in 1881.
