The Allston School on Boardman street Cambridge was nearly destroyed by a blaze last evening. Damages estimated around 400 thousand dollars. Firefighters battled flames through nine rooms and a hall as ventilators and gas were shut off to prevent further danger. A janitor reported the building secure at 4 25 PM with air temp 72 degrees. Several rescuers narrowly escaped injury, including Lieutenant McDonald and Daniel Powers, while two adjacent tenement houses and a nearby church were endangered.
Police at Station 9 report another arrest in a widening vote fraud probe. Thomas F Dolan, 36, of 264 Norfolk Ave, is charged with aiding illegal voting and neglecting duty as election officer. Curran, who voted under a dead man’s name, had implicated Dolan. Curran’s arrest followed by McGrath, with Dolan alleged to have arranged using the alias Kelly. Dolan bailed. Curran remains out on bail as case continues.
