Animals' Friends Fair Opens in Copley Plaza Ballroom

The Animal Rescue League fair opened in Boston with Society women in charge and full attendance from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. A doll exhibit led by Mrs. Horace H. Soule and Miss Mary H. Russell showcased Lady Betty Madish and dolls from across nations. Tonight a cabaret show and dance draw wide interest with society girls as waitresses.

House Committee Backs Pay Rise for Federal Court Clerks

The House Judiciary Committee reported favorably a bill to fix district court clerk salaries from 3000 to 4500 dollars plus all fees. General Charles K. Darling says large cities like Boston and New York gain the higher pay while smaller courts use the lower figure. He notes past fee flexibility let clerks earn more than judges, who cap at 6000 dollars, with some clerkships once valued up to 10000 dollars.

Bequests to Woburn charities and a magazine feature

The will allocates $1000 to aid the worthy poor and designated gifts include $300 to the Woburn Home for Aged Women, $300 to the Congregational Home Missionary Society of New York, and $500 to the W. Four Women and a Man Nabbed for Shoplifting

Four women and a man were arrested yesterday on shoplifting charges near department stores. All were taken to police headquarters and locked up at the city prison.
