Berlin dispatch reports the Kaiser is unable to leave bed with persistent fever and no instruction given after receiving a military report. Bulletin tone signals extremely serious illness, pneumonia cited as the cause, with official notices indicating a desperate condition.
Admiral Sturdee delivers a major naval victory near the Falkland Islands. German ships Scharnhorst Gneisenau and Leipzig sunk, Dresden and Nurenberg crippled and pursued by an unharmed British fleet. Japanese fleet not engaged. Admiralty withholds full strength details.
Kate Michaud, self confessed accomplice, tells the jury she helped take Mildred Sullivan to Dr. Lionel E. Dudley and that he agreed to illegal operation for payment. She says he performed the procedure alone, used chloroform, and moved the dying woman to a house where she died.

Fire destroyed almost the entire main plant of the Edison Company in West Orange New Jersey. Damage estimated near 7 million dollars with insurance likely reducing the loss to about 5 million. An entire block of reinforced concrete buildings deemed fireproof burned except the laboratory where Edison and his staff saved valuable machinery.
About 3000 workers will be temporarily laid off as a large fire destroys Edison’s battery plant. Roughly 7000 employees were on site, but the saved storage building allows keeping over half the workforce. Four firemen are injured but not seriously. The 67 year old inventor pledges to mobilize, clear debris, and reconstruct promptly.
Walter H. Trumbull Jr acting captain of Harvard football won first marshal of the senior class over Captain Charles E. Brickley by five votes in the Cambridge elections held yesterday.
The contest between Harvard football captain Brickley and acting captain Trumbull for the first marshalship drew wide attention. Trumbull led much of the season while Brickley was out with appendicitis and earned Brickley’s endorsement from the captain. Trumbull narrowly won the first marshalship. Brickley took second, with Russell R. Ayres of Montclair, New Jersey, third.
London reports reveal the German Kaiser is gravely ill with pneumonia and fever, prompting fears of leadership weakness as his doctors cite nervous collapse from overactivity. Count von Moltke also falls ill after Germany’s retreat at the Marne, with details carried in a distant public update.
In a South Atlantic engagement yesterday a British squadron led by Vice Admiral Sir Frederick Sturdee destroyed parts of the German fleet. The armored vessels Scharnhorst and Gneisenau and the cruiser Leipzig were sunk, while Dresden and Nurenberg suffered defeat. The fighting follows the prior German victory off the Chilean coast on November 1.
