Life Savers manpower prepared for an all night vigil as breeches buoy gear ready to rescue crew of a doomed three master off Menemsha Bight. Terrific gale drives the vessel toward shore with no signs of life aboard.
A three masted schooner driven by a northeast storm pounds near Menemsha Bight as Revenue Cutter Acushnet and lifesavers standby with breeches buoy ready. The doomed vessel shows only a dim silhouette against breakers and howling gale.
Fresno Dan, heir to the Russell estate, received six proposals yesterday but will not marry yet. He says no candidate has yet proven right, as the field narrows with all earlier contenders out of the race.
Early morning two alarm fire at the F W Woolworth store basement on 1075 Washington street injures Fireman Patrick Malone and Ladderman Fitzgerald. The heat and wind hampered efforts as smoke filled the building and Christmas goods burned. a night watchman was rescued. Policeman YLatley aided rescue and the blaze prompted a second alarm followed by an explosion blowing out windows on the street side. Continued on Page 9 Eighth Col.
John Fleming 36 a special policeman at the Georgian near Park Square was stabbed in a quarrel last night near the Georgian. He was taken by taxicab to City Hospital and listed on the dangerous list but early this morning was reported resting comfortably. Police seek James Beers a Lynn florist alleged assailant. Fleming lives at 8 Rutland Square.
Police at Newton Centre continue to drag Silver Lake for Mrs Annie Colby widow of John Colby a former Boston and Brookline attorney missing since Thursday night from a private sanitarium. Dr Samuel L Eaton in charge at the sanitarium believes suicide is possible but now suspects she may be wandering and unable to identify herself.
Francis Bowes Sayre and Mrs Jessie Woodrow Wilson spent their first day in London on a sightseeing tour. Tomorrow Sayre will join Ambassador Walter H. Page at Cambridge University for the Trinity College commemoration feast.
Catherine Quirk Salsbury has returned to Boston with her parents and denies any separation suit with her Chicago husband Ned Salsbury. Ned and his family in Chicago report indicate the East bride did not win full family approval.
Mrs Salsbury at her parents' home 33 Alexander street admits affairs at the Chicago mansion are strained. She says there will be no litigation, Ned sends regular remittances, and is doing all he can until they are together again. The marriage to the former telephone girl occurred in September 1912 and stirred social circles.
Edward H. Salsbury of Hyde Park Boulevard says he has no notice of a court action by Catherine E. Quirk-Salsbury for separate support. He notes frequent quarrels and a January separation, insisting there was no blackmail and that he won’t discuss the matter further.
