Amat Bowling League Reinstates Eastman and Prescott

The Amateur Bowling League of Boston suspended Eastman and Prescott for the two man team event at Boylston alleys on November 28, 1896. They were reinstated in good standing after entering the tournament believing all entrants were amateurs. A new rule requires members to obtain league permission before entering prize tournaments on public alleys.

Country Club elects new executive committee three year terms

Directors of the Boston Firemen's Mutual Relief Association met at Chief Webber's office to set the annual ball for Wednesday evening February 10 at Mechanics' Hall. District Chief N L Hussey was named floor director and committees on printing music and hall were appointed. No souvenirs will be printed and ballers barred. The event will follow last year's format with a concert from 8 to 9 and dancing from 9 to 1.

Unknown man killed by Boston & Maine train near Oak Island

A man about 50 years old was found dead on the tracks as a Boston & Maine train from Boston approached Lynn. The engineer slowed the train and found the body, which awaits identification in Lynn. The deceased, a childless widower born in Ireland, lived 30 years in Swampscott and had earned a substantial farm fortune. His remains were found near Oak Island. Thomas Farrell of Swampscott left a $4000 bequest to Carney Hospital and other generous gifts to local institutions including St. Joseph's Irish Lynn and Lynn Hospital.
