Knife Collins Defends Loan Bill at Minot Hall Meet
John Lee defended the loan bill amid opposition from Street Commissioner Dore who was expelled from the Democratic organization as a renegade. Senator-elect Sullivan led the strongest denunciations of Dore and the loan bill, calling it extravagant. Sullivan alleged Dore sold out to Mayor Hart for a mere meal after 17 years with the party. Lee thanked the crowd with an ovation, then criticized press exaggeration of the bill’s totals. Dore was cited as earning seventy two thousand dollars in salary, while others on the payroll faced criticism for high salaries and non resident clerks.

Barge Hits City Bridge Striking Newmarket Barge Accident
The barge Newmarket, captain Leroy R. Wall, owned by Piscataqua Navigation Co. of Portsmouth New Hampshire, carrying 110000 bricks for Curtis Pope of Swett Street, struck the cantilever draw of the New York New Haven railroad at Federal Street last night about nine. The hawser parted in a tide and current, driving the hull into the bridge. The pilot house and smokestack were wrecked, the hull wedged beside the bridge, and the mast cut to free it. The barge remained two hours, then moved to the railroad embankment. Traffic was not stopped.
