Cape Cod tragedy sinks fishing schooner Cora McKay

In Provincetown a fierce North Atlantic storm sinks the three masted fishing schooner Cora McKay with a crew of twenty nine sailors and a boy. No survivors are reported and fifteen widows plus fifty four orphans are left mourning. Army Bill Passes House with Canteen Prohibition Added

The House approved the army bill 166 to 133. A prohibition amendment, pushed by the WCTU, barred sale of intoxicants at posts, exchanges, or canteens and within army premises. Also adopted were measures to abolish the army canteen and to retire or promote several generals.

Rebellion in Cape Colony Looms Over Worcester Congress

London reports a rising mood in Cape Colony as Afrikander congress gathers at Worcester. Troops guard Worcester with artillery ready to quell any outbreak. Meanwhile Boer forces strike British sailors, killing and wounding, while Knox hunts Dewet as Transvaal and Orange Free State tensions mount.

Boers Attack Convoy Near Buffelspoort

London war office dispatch from Bloemfontein dated December 6 reports General Delarey with 500 Boers attacked a convoy from Pretoria to Rustenburg at Buffelspoort on December 2, burning half the convoy and killing fifteen, wounding twenty three including Lieutenant Baker. Boers suffered losses. Rustenburg and Commando Nek troops aided and drove them off. Dewet crossed the Caledon near Karepont Drift on December 5, with Knox in pursuit as the drift held by guards and the river flooded.

Afrikander congress assembles near Worcester in Cape Colony

About 6000 Dutchmen gathered at the Gun Tree Plantation on the town’s edge to join an Afrikander congress. Horsemen rode in overnight as speeches criticized Sir Alfred Milner the British high commissioner. Expected speakers include J W Sauer who may steer proceedings toward pressuring Milner for guidance on ceasefire and policy.
