Indian's Bark at Maine Sportsmen's Exhibit Opens
Last night at Park Square Garden the Maine Sportsmen's exhibit opened with a crowd enjoying birch bark canoe making and a twisting track for automobiles. Dr. Aaron Burr of Denver gave the opening address as plans for three months of events were outlined including bicycle races, six days team and individual races, motorcycle contests, aquatic events, rifle and pistol shooting, and a six days pedestrian contest. The Mobile Company of America displayed a dozen machines and offered rides, while exhibits of live and taxidermied animals, Indian camps, and hunters’ cabins drew attention. The Carlisle Indian Band and Cary's Orchestra provided musicleads to a lively opening night.

Wakefield December 6. John W. Crowell’s body was buried today as Chief Hallett passed the house during the service. Dr A Roberts recalls a one year note for 50 payable to Crowell or his heirs. The note was written by Mrs C H Eldridge, Crowell’s daughter, who with her husband lives there. Roberts signed and took it home for his wife’s signature. He knows no reason for the heirs clause. Police have kept details discreet while awaiting decisions on arrests.

Thomas C. Butler a longtime Boston rowing figure died of heart disease yesterday at his brother’s Auburn street home after a two week illness. Born in Ireland sixty years ago he rose in New England rowing, winning the 1869 New England championship on the Charles River against Randall for a side stake of 100. He later triumphed in doubles with his brother Jim and coached crews though not racing in over a decade. He served in local politics as a Common Council member and state legislator before becoming an assistant assessor.
