Loyal Legion Meeting in Boston Oversees New Members

The Loyal Legion Commandery of Massachusetts held a regular meeting at the American House with about 400 attendees. Rear Admiral George E. Belknap presided. Chaplain Charles A. Humphreys led a paper on capture and imprisonment in Lynchburg, Macon, and Charleston. New members elected included Major Robert Dollard of the Second colored cavalry, A. & W., George P. Richardson, William E. Richardson of Cambridge, and Arthur W. Hall.

Fire destroys Boston & Quincy car house and cars

Quincy December 7 a fire swept the Boston and Quincy street railway car house burning many cars and causing an estimated loss of 20 000 to 25 000. The cause is undetermined but suspected to be electrical wires arcing or sparking.

Death tied to illegal operation case in Wakefield

Police arrested Julius Simons of Wakefield Daisy Thompson of 104 Washington street and Elizabeth Lord of 71 Chandler street in connection with Alma Carlson 25 who died from complications of an abortion. Carlson lived at 111 Albion Wakefield last October Simons admitted responsibility and drove her to Dr Thompson at 1034 Washington street and later to Lord's house four others were found awaiting care at the Chandler street residence including Florence Waitte 17 who lay in a carting condition and was sent to City Hospital. Further arrests are expected as investigators pursue more victims.

Pastor and wife shot by burglar in Racine home incident

The Rev. David Cheney of the First Baptist Church and his wife were shot by a burglar at their Lake avenue home. Mrs. Cheney was wounded in the breast with the bullet likely in her left lung, while Mr. Cheney sustained wounds to the abdomen and center of the chest. Both are in critical condition.
