Reading Fire at Nolde & Holst Hosiery Plant Tragedy

A devastating blaze at Nolde & Holst hosiery mill in Reading Pennsylvania killed one or possibly two workers and injured about sixty, with 57 hospitalized and 30 in serious condition. A badly burned body was recovered, and another may be trapped in debris. The fire started from a gasoline explosion in the singeing room. losses are pegged near $275,000 with $150,000 insured.

Trains Collision Wrecks Engines Near Deerfield

A Fitchburg line passenger train collided with two freight engines at Deerfield, wrecking three engines and a coach but injuring no passengers or crew. The express left Greenfield at 417 p m and arrived East Deerfield with no warning of the obstruction to the flagger.

Extradition Proceeding Advances in Chili Case

A Santiago despatch says Chile's Supreme Court upheld a lower court ruling granting the United States forty days to file documents proving the identity and guilt of Frederick T. Moore, accused of embezzling 53,000 from the National Bank of Commerce. Chief Watts says inspectors will arrive December 13, with Attorney H N Allen aboard. extradition likely to proceed under Chilean assurances.

Counterfeiters Arrested in Canada Bank Note Case

William Davis alias William Williams and Annie Hubert were arrested in Guthrie Oklahoma and brought to Boston on counterfeiting charges. They faced a 19 count indictment and were each bailed at ten thousand dollars, and committed to Charles Street Jail if bail defaults. The court appearance proceeded before Judge Colt with Assistant District Attorney Washburn presenting the case.
