Edgar Lord, treasurer of the New Bedford and Acushnet Co operative Banks, was arrested in New Bedford on a charge of embezzling $40,000. The complaint was filed by Massachusetts bank examiner Charles W. Levi.
Mr Lord was seized at Rufus A Soule's home and a directors conference with bank examiner and treasurer followed. The complaint covers irregularities since 1907. Bank examiners will take charge tomorrow and suspend payments during the inquiry. Lord, in bank service 20 years, is a noted musician and church organist with a wife and four children.
On a voyage to the United States a baby named Franz Sohes grew ill two days from New York and died before sighting American shore. The father, hoping his son would live to see America, carried the child on deck as Fire Island Light appeared on the horizon, but the infant passed away.

Mrs. Mary Ellen Deere of Brockton files for divorce from Elias Deere of Hallowell Maine on desertion grounds. They wed June 30 1867 in Brockton and the desertion is alleged to have begun April 1 1895. Both are well known locally, and Deere may contest.
At Sagamore Hill Roosevelt, playing tennis with his sons Archie and Quentin, commented that opponents may have any letter he ever wrote. He spoke on the Senate's adoption of the Penrose resolution directing a probe into the Archbold Penrose Roosevelt campaign contribution controversy. He paused briefly to note William Loeb Jr.’s visit before resuming the game.

The Forty second street gambling house once run by Bridgie Webber, linked to the Rosenthal murder plot, was raided by Police Inspector Dwyer. Webber, an admitted accomplice, remains jailed while the venue continues as an incorporated poker club run by his supporters.
After a raid led by a new inspector, Kirk Brown was arrested and decks of cards seized. Police Commissioner Waldo plans to publish tonight a list of owners and agents renting property for illegal gambling and vice, to be used by the district attorney in John Doe prosecutions before Justice Goff. James L. Haddie of Weymouth was arraigned after a Saturday arrest at the Hotel Touraine for possessing a revolver without a license. He pled not guilty and is held in $100 bond for a September 4 hearing. He was also charged with assault and battery on his wife by Weymouth Officer Nash.
Waiters and cooks walked out at the Hotel Touraine during dinner under the direction of an organizer from the I W W. The union says 70 men quit, while the hotel manager reports 30 waiters and eight cooks participated. The action, unprecedented in Boston hotel circles, raises fears of a broader hotel employee strike. International Hotel Workers' Union members are behind the walkout, part of wider organizing by the I W W in Boston with figures from New York organizers General Organizer Blocklinger and Mrs Rose Pastor Stokes.
Mrs Pauline Shaw of Falmouth was choked unconscious by a burglar who entered the White residence at 56 Montfern Avenue, Brighton, in broad daylight. He rifled drawers, left jewelry, and escaped with $52 in cash after tying up Mrs Shaw, while two similar break-ins were previously reported in the area.
