Mackerel and hulls fill Gloucester fish fleet reports
Seaconnet and Mortis H Perry sold hundreds of thousands of pounds of fresh mackerel at 18 and 17 cents. Richard Lester and Alice M Jacobs arrived for morning sales with tens of thousands of fish and 20 000 fresh mackerel. Squanto brought 70 000 pounds of halibut, traders posted strong prices, and haddock cod hake pollock and halibut arrivals totaled large weights. Weather and seas damaged little, while new vessels and losses are noted including the Willie L Newton drowning crew and several ships leaving port for varied cargos. The Avonmore set a hemp transport record after surviving a hurricane.
