Sir Thomas Lipton praised Shamrock after the race saying they did better than in the last contest and hope for progress. He noted his defeat by just over a minute and admissed the victor’s boat was superior today. He added wind could have altered the outcome and expressed optimism for the next race.
After insurgents seize Kruschevo near Monastir the town endures three days of bombardment by Turkish forces. Women and children are left homeless as homes are looted, residents killed or abused, and the town burned. Greek notables are targeted amid claims of mass pillage and violence by Turkish soldiers and Bashi-Bazouks.
Fire gutted the Littlefield & Flummer factory on Box Place in Lynn early this morning causing about 50000 dollars in losses. The wooden frame building stored inflammable materials and stood near other factories and the Boston Revere Beach Lynn terminal. Firemen sustained minor injuries while fighting the blaze and the cause remains unknown.
Former Patrolman William F. Vincent sues Malden for 750 dollars claiming pay for services during suspension period. He resigned after a nine month suspension tied to a divorce case.
Mayor Tom L. Johnson of Cleveland tops John L. Zimmerman of Springfield in preliminary Democratic State convention meetings for the gubernatorial nomination in Columbus Ohio.
A fire at 21 Tileston street killed two people. Richard F. Martin died later at the relief station from injuries after leaping from a third story window. Charles Anderson was found dead in bed, charred.
President Roosevelt announced General Luke E Wright will become Governor General of the Philippines, succeeding Taft when he moves to become Secretary of War. Wright is currently Vice Governor General.
Senator Hanna was taken ill in his Cleveland office with stomach trouble amid intense heat. A physician ordered bed rest for several days. By nightfall Hanna was somewhat better, possibly limiting his participation in the state campaign.
Boston area forecast for Wednesday calls for partly cloudy skies and warmer temperatures with fresh north to west winds. Thursday is expected to be fair. Fr Johns Medicine claims to cure bronchitis and to restore color and flesh to the thin and pale.
C Oliver Iselin remarked that two boats were well handled but stated that Reliance proved its superiority in all weather and conditions.

A cyclonic storm swept central Stamford between 4 and 5 pm causing heavy damage. Hundreds of trees toppled, sheds unroofed, wires tangled, and darkness across the city. The schooner Hattie M Bird ran ashore near Smith's Ledge, but no injuries were reported. The path of destruction stretched about a mile with damage in the thousands of dollars.
A shower with vivid lightning moved through New Haven between 4 and 5 30 PM with northwest wind up to 24 mph and half an inch of rain. The storm affected the state with little damage reported except in the extreme western section. Continued on Page 9 Seventh Column.
