Chittenden served in the ambulance division of the 88th Aero Combat Squadron and was a Wheaton Illinois native. He and his wife had lived in Brookline for five weeks after a three year marriage.

Frank H. Turgeon proprietor of the Somerset Farm Creamery on Camden Street was held up by four young men who stole 250 dollars and locked him in the store refrigerator. Police were alerted by one of the suspects and freed him within the hour.
Turgeon closed his shop at 6 pm and two men aged about 20 to 25 forced cash from the till totaling 225 dollars and took 25 dollars from the safe. They locked Turgeon in the store refrigerator and later called HQ from a Congress street booth to report a captive.
In Hingham Aug 22 Mrs Flora White of Randolph lost her left foot when windshield glass mangled it during a car crash that left her in danger at Quincy Hospital. The accident injured two other women and a child as the vehicle driven by William M Leavitt of Randolph skidded on Mayflower Road near Hingham Bay and overturned down an eight foot embankment.
