Perils of Excursionists Near Mount Washington

A party of five excursionists from Crawford House faced a near fatal halt as unseasonal cold gripped Mount Washington New Hampshire August 21 190? with temperatures plunging to 28 degrees. Three men and two women were rescued along the bridle path in a badly used-up condition one woman would have perished without hotel aid.

SevenYearOld Elisha Knight Dies by Jump at Wakefield Station

Elisha Knight aged seven attempted to flee illness and jumped in front of the 5 24 express from Boston in Wakefield causing severe injuries. He was mangled with multiple broken limbs and torn clothing. The body was moved to the depot baggage room as Medical Examiner Jack of Melrose arrived. Knight, a shoe maker, had been living with his daughter Maria Knight on Gould Street in recent years.

In Salem on August 21 police tie Pierre Bourgeois who died July 27 from Warren House burns to missing Bradford man Henry Bourgeois. Henry, who vanished days before the fire while claiming a Beverly job, left a widow and several children. He was buried in Salem Cemetery, with no known relatives.

Boy Dies After Train Collision Near Castle Hill

In Salem on August 21 Isadore St Pierre, 11, son of Louis St Pierre, was struck and killed by a Boston and Maine passenger train near Castle Hill. The boy, berrying, stepped off a track to let a freight pass and walked into the path of the passenger train. the impact destroyed the top of his head.
