Newport Rhode Island August 22 The Casino Theatre produced a society tableaux event to aid the Newport Hospital. A fashionable audience viewed living pictures of old master subjects arranged by Elliott Gregory with participants including Mrs J J Astor Miss Vanderbilt and others in period costumes and elaborate stage fixtures.

Hyde Park man falls thirty feet from roof at Grove Hall

Robert Jesse of Hyde Park fell from a roof at Grove Hall yesterday afternoon, losing balance and dropping about thirty feet. He sustained multiple injuries, none serious, and was taken to the City Hospital for treatment.

Smuggled liquor seized near Gloucester coastal raid

Collector Pew reports multiple seizures of contraband liquor landed from the Provinces or St. Pierre. A year ago the Sarah E Babson case slowed traffic, but large quantities are again entering. Yesterday near Norman's Woe, a sheltered cove yielded many opened liquor cases marked F. S. & Co, likely from fishing vessels calling at provincial ports.

Jealousy Tragedy Ends Life in Pawtucket

At 2 o'clock this morning Patrick O'Day of 276 Pleasant street Pawtucket shot his wife and instantly killed her. The trouble was due to jealousy.

Spirits Manufacturing Co Incorporated in New York

The American Spirits Manufacturing Company was incorporated in New York with capital stock of 35 million dollars, paying 43,750 dollars in taxes. Its principal office will be in New York City. Officers include S. M. Rice as president and R. B. Hartshorne as vice president and chairman.

John Welch Killed by Transit Express in Woburn

John Welch a local expressman in Woburn Mass was struck and killed by a southbound express train at Winn street while driving a carriage toward the city center. The collision mangled him and the horse fatally and left a wife and several small children.

Described Terrebonne Steamer Sinks. Passengers Saved at Lachine

In Montreal on Aug 22 a report said the Terrebonne met a serious accident with drownings, but later notes indicated the steamer sprang a leak through Cascade Rapids and was landed at Lachine Canal where all passengers were transferred safely. Among them were several hundred Knights Templars en route to Boston. The passengers arrived in the city by train.

Crescent Lodge Odd Fellows Marks 50th Anniversary

Crescent Lodge No 8 in East Weymouth celebrated its fiftieth anniversary with a parade banquet and speeches. The lodge now has 242 members and was greeted by grand officers and guests after a procession from the railroad station to Odd Fellows Hall. Speakers included Zachariah L Bicknell Colonel Henry A Thomas and other Grand Lodge members.

Hanleys Comeback as Insanity Questioned in Salem

Patrick J Hanley known as Corkey Hanley one of Essex counties most notorious criminals is jailed in Salem awaiting grand jury action after dropping food and water for eight days. Doctors including Dr Page and Dr Hilcott examined him while Sheriff Johnson notes uncertain mental state and ongoing nourishment. He previously escaped in Lynn and served time in Concord Charlestown and Europe, with a long record of breaks and jail escapes.

Essex ship carpenter killed by train near Monserrat

Roderick McKenna, 55, of Essex, was struck by the 3:20 Boston train while walking with another carpenter from the Beverly Gloucester line toward Monserrat station. He died about fifteen minutes later, after being unconscious at the scene. He leaves four children. He had spent the afternoon in Salem and was en route to Essex.

Fire devastates Milwaukee river warehouses and cars

A major blaze at 1 pm destroyed six blocks along the Menominee River in Milwaukee. The Union Steamboat dock, Anchor line, Wisconsin Central and other railroad freight houses suffered extensive losses, with over sixty freight cars ruined. Estimated total loss ranges from 300000 to 500000. one boy named McManus was killed by a fire wagon incident.

Streetcar Arrangements During Parade Reported

Streetcar lines from Grove Hall and nearby routes will operate north to Northampton street and Summer street via Harrison avenue during the parade. Several lines including East Boston Ferry will be discontinued while others use Shawmut avenue or Washington street as closures occur. Cars will run at five minute intervals between Shawmut and Massachusetts avenues and depots until Tremont Street and Scollay Square are closed, then north to Eliot street until the parade ends.
