Defender Withdraws in First America Cup Trial Race

Vigilant continued, won the second leg after judges recalled the race, and claimed the victory as anticipatory British spectators celebrated the Valkyrie steadiness. Templars Big Parade In Boston A Parading Spotlight

Boston prepares for next Tuesday's Templars grand parade with stands along Commonwealth Avenue Arlington Street and Copley Square filling with spectators. Windows along the route are rented as prime box office real estate while private stands draw society ladies and boarding house keepers offer views for $15 a cart. The procession moves from Arlington Street through Boylston Street into Columbus Avenue and Massachusetts Avenue toward Columbus Square, where Edwin Holmes and other Grand Lodge figures watch from grand stands.

Return trip completed in 2 hours 28 minutes 7 seconds at 21 knots. Sea was smooth.

Dog Attack at Medford Junk Yard Prompts Suit

David F. Smith attorney filed a $5000 damage suit in Medford over injuries from a dog owned by Felix A. Taylor. The shaggy multi breed Newfoundland reportedly attacked Smith in Linden Street yard, pulling him to the ground and biting as onlookers watched, with Smith defending himself and seeking help.

Boston clothing strike pits 4000 workers against contractors

Four thousand Boston garment workers, about half women, strike to enforce hours, wages, and contract bonds. Some contractors have already yielded while others prepare for a prolonged fight. Leaders expect many contractors to sign. New York garment unions back the action and a statewide labor council may join.

Death in Gloucester Carriage Accident

William P. Sufkin, his wife and two children, with Mrs. Garvey, were riding in Gloucester when a horse drawn carriage overturned after 2 pm. Sufkin struck his head and died at 6 pm despite medical care. His wife was severely injured. Mrs. Garvey and the children escaped with minor injuries. The horse had been purchased by Sufkin recently.

Two suspected criminals linked to Lynn horse thefts

Lynn and Medford police believe two Natick arrests may involve more than horse stealing. Edward F. Minor and Geo Cowhey, residents of Natick, allegedly took Charles W. Dearborns team on Washington Street Saturday. Mrs Bowen’s daylight pocketbook robbery near the Mystic rack track is also linked to the suspects.

Investigation into Sagamore Hotel ruin teardown in Lynn

A Lynn city investigation will probe the July fire wreckage of the Sagamore Hotel. Aldermen Kimball and Johnson were named for the committee after a prior council vote reversal. The inquiry will cover city expenses for razing dangerous walls and related costs.
