Reports say British forces took Merville in the Lys sector with Germans retreating along a six mile front near Lassigny. Workers report to work only if they rejoin the Boot and Shoe Workers Union as War Labor Board pressure seeks a modify order. A 1100 strong street parade followed the lockout and unions vow to return only if mandated by federal action.
The federal food board announces that abolishing open sugar bowls in hotels and restaurants since the sugar shortage began has saved about two pounds per month per customer. Some establishments still use open bowls, unfair to those observing the rule and reflecting a lack of patriotism.

A man is jailed at Alfred county jail and will be arraigned in Kennebunk tomorrow morning as part of a long running investigation. A 17 year old girl Katie Gerow was questioned and admitted familiarity with the evangelist but denied improprieties. Mrs Hall died after an accident near Little River stream following a walk with her husband. The death sparked church strife and scrutiny of Mr Hall’s relationship with the girl.
