Important Railroad Case and Sweeping Western Rate Cut

In Woonsville New Hampshire on August 18 the railroad commissioners hear a Mt. Washington Railway Company land condemnation case against Pinree heirs over five acres used for terminal facilities on Mt Washington. The dispute centers on a $250,000 ask. hearings include Sanborn and Hardy for the railway and Hayward lawyers for the Pinree heirs. Separately the Chicago Burlington and Northern proposes a 75 percent rate cut between Chicago and St. Paul Minneapolis, arguing to meet Canadian and lake competition with new tariffs. The move, tied to Western Freight Association talks, triggers notices from Chicago, St. Paul and Kansas City lines and prompts rebuffs and adjustments as lines prepare to apply the new rates.
