Romer New York Aug 16 Clarence Bell a New York business man was shot and instantly killed by Ellis Roberts of Utica while hunting in Moose River North Woods yesterday. Roberts mistook Bell for a deer and fired.
Indications from Washington report fair to locally unsettled conditions across Maine and New Hampshire with stationary to warmer temperatures and southwest winds. Vermont may see local showers and a slight warmup. Massachusetts Rhode Island Connecticut and western New York show fair skies with warmer readings and variable winds, with possible light rain in the north.
Andrew J Lloyd, optician, operates from 323 Washington Street on the ground floor, with a long-established trade since 1870. The firm, identified as Harvard Place, occupies a prominent location on Milk Street.

Supreme Court justice Stephen J. Field was arrested in San Francisco on a murder claim tied to the Lathrop shooting of David F. Terry. A habeas corpus writ freed Field on $5000 bail as Stockton officials sought formal process.
The funeral of David S. Terry was held in Stockton California with the body moved from the morgue to the Episcopal Church where it lay in state for two hours and was viewed by many. Mrs Terry sobbed beside the casket as she kept vigil then departed to throw herself upon the coffin. The service was conducted by a vestryman and the burial took place in Stockton Cemetery.
Newport R L August 16 The United States cruiser Yorktown arrived from New York this afternoon to conduct speed and turning trials over the measured mile in preparation for official tests.
New York on August 16 William Trainor who tried to rob money broker Goetz Loeb at 89 Broadway at gunpoint was sentenced this afternoon by Judge Gildersleeve to fifteen years in State prison with hard labor.

In Harthorp Connecticut an aged widow living alone on Winthrop and Pleasant streets was found dead in her kitchen after likely two days. She left no children and few relatives. Three male relatives including Hezekiah Gaylord and John M Newbury later searched the house and uncovered bonds and stocks valued at about 40000.
Cuarneston reports confirm a cloud-burst in the interior. The affected tract is about five miles wide and fifty to sixty miles long. No thunder or lightning, but a steady heavy rain, estimated twelve inches in two hours. Seven miles of the Camden branch of the South Carolina railway washed away.
