Washington August 17 The conference between railroad presidents and the managers committee shows further backing of the managers by their chiefs in line with the President's proposals. One president said they had thoroughly reviewed the situation and agreed with the committee’s actions in every detail.

Submarine Deutschland sighting reported in Boston

Sighting of German Submarine in Mid Atlantic Near Iceland
The Deutschland was sighted seven days ago in the mid Atlantic by watchers on the Sachem. West Medford Girl Drowns at Mystic Lake Pool
Doris F. Lee aged 20 daughter of Mrs. Sarah Lee of 158 Jerome Street West Medford drowned yesterday afternoon in the eight foot deep pool at Mystic Lake Winchester. Metropolitan Park Police Officer James B. Polis swam to her aid fully clothed and brought her ashore but failed to revive her. She had jumped into the pool thinking the water was shallow.
