Rome reports Pope Pius III's condition improved after laryngitis and a gout flare up. Doctors Petacci and Marchiafava visited and said his temperature remained near normal and overall state satisfactory given the heat.
Doctors consulted Dr Amichi yesterday afternoon and punctured the swollen knee to extract serum. The operation was slight and relieved some pain. Osservatore Romano published an official communiqué last night noting an optimistic tone and a turn for the better.
Seven Redemptorist Fathers from the Mission Church Roxbury recount their peril and rescue by Gap Cove life savers near Rockport while returning from a pleasure sail aboard the Diana. The priests named are Rev. Thomas V. Owohey Rev. James Clark Rev. Frank Passnacht Rev. William Prager Rev. Michael Gannon Rev. Simon Grogan and Rev. Henry Borgman.
The power boat Diana ran onto the Sandy Bay breakwater and began sinking. Life-savers launched a surf boat and rescued the passengers. Captain John O Leary blamed a buoy misidentification. The gas yacht Avocet helped tow the Diana to Rockport. The passengers, priests, then returned to Boston by train.
Leo Smith aged 40 of Newton was struck down and killed by an automobile in Watertown square last night. The car owner driver Howard T. Viets of Arlington was arrested on a manslaughter charge.
At about 9 p m in Watertown square a touring car driven by Viets struck Smith who had stepped into the street. Smith died from a fractured skull and multiple facial injuries while Viets was arrested. Smith lived on California street Newton leaving a wife and two children. Viets residence is listed as Levine street Arlington.

Mrs John Edward Paul Geraghty wife of a Newport chauffeur eloped from Newport to Central Village Conn and married there. The couple were confronted by reporters at 220 Pine Street Springfield and refused to discuss plans.
Private detectives hired by the heiress family pursue leads to locate the missing heiress and return her to her home, tracing movements and seeking lawful reunification.
Geraghty and his wife boarded a train at Central Village Connecticut and fled west after abducting a minister and hotel keeper to conduct a marriage in bed. Boston detectives failed to catch them as they moved toward Worcester and Indian Orchard, where they slept at Geraghty’s aunt’s home and planned a prolonged stay.

The House of Lords clash over Lloyd-George’s budget ends temporarily as Conservatives back the Liberals to protect their caste and spare the King from royal prerogative. The vote, held for about an hour, hingeing on 2 to 30 Conservative rebels, alters the working constitution since the Reform Bill era.
