Priest voyagers survive shipwreck near Sandy Bay breakwater

The power boat Diana ran onto the Sandy Bay breakwater and began sinking. Life-savers launched a surf boat and rescued the passengers. Captain John O Leary blamed a buoy misidentification. The gas yacht Avocet helped tow the Diana to Rockport. The passengers, priests, then returned to Boston by train.

Man Killed by Auto in Watertown Square

Leo Smith aged 40 of Newton was struck down and killed by an automobile in Watertown square last night. The car owner driver Howard T. Viets of Arlington was arrested on a manslaughter charge.

At about 9 p m in Watertown square a touring car driven by Viets struck Smith who had stepped into the street. Smith died from a fractured skull and multiple facial injuries while Viets was arrested.
