Members of the Associated Advertising Clubs of America reported a fiery revolt in Boston during the convention’s final feature. A farewell reception and banquet hosted by the Pilgrim Publicity Association at Symphony Hall capped four days of notable incidents.
Expressions of esteem marked a Pilgrims event with Elbert Hubbard among speakers praising brotherhood. Retiring President S C Dobbs of Atlanta received gifts including a silver punch bowl while San Francisco and Chicago delegates gifted an auto-car for his long absences on official business.
Nat Goodwin announces he has wired New York lawyers to sue for libel over use of his name to promote Edna Goodrich’s novel The Deynard Divorce. He criticizes the publishers for dragging his name into the advertising without his consent, defending the actress while vowing legal action.

A Boston artist files for divorce on grounds of desertion, claiming his wife left him on April 14, 1908. The public tale traces her rise from Gloucester model to stage actress after meeting Major in 1900 and marrying in 1901. About sixty laborers at Thomas G Plant's strummer estate in Moultonboro N H seized and imprisoned their foremen, then rioted through the town armed with knives and revolvers. Sheriff arrived with a heavily armed posse and drove them out of town as residents fled. Governor Bass was urged to deploy militia to quell the disturbance.
Workers flee the mob by team auto and on foot after a wage dispute. Officials failed to reach the Governor, prompting High Sheriff Herbert Burke of Madison to marshal a 70 man posse. Burke arrived at 7:30 PM as tensions surge in town.
Aug. 4 in Lawrence a sneak thief armed with a gun and tools was captured while burgling a tenement at 7 Erving avenue. He fought hard but was held by three women Mrs. Julia Young about 60 Mrs. Joseph McKenna and Mrs. Thomas Peet until police inspectors and a patrolman arrived. The women were shaken but unharmed after the struggle.
Mrs Thomas Peet spotted a doorway intrusion at a tenement and alerted Mrs McKenna and Mrs Young. The trio entered with Young leading, grappling a burglar named Joseph Brown, aided by Joseph Dobbin, before police arrived. The suspect carried a revolver, tool set, keys, jewelry, a safety razor, and a watch.
The Detroit Tigers, once leaders in the American League race, were toppled from the top by the Boston Red Sox after a fourth straight win. The Tigers arrived Wednesday with a comfortable margin but lost yesterday, leaving them in second place and defeated on the field.

The steamship Columbia of the Anchor Line, en route from Glasgow, struck an iceberg in dense fog about 150 miles north of Cape Race. Capt. F. H. Wadsworth said the bow was stove in but waterline intact, and no injuries were reported. 550 passengers aboard include 80 in first class, 330 in second, 150 steerage. due in New York tomorrow.
The 8000 ton steamship Columbia sailed from Glasgow on July 29 with 410 first and second cabin passengers and 150 steerage travelers. Officials expect she will arrive in New York on schedule tomorrow under her own steam.
