Colonel Crockett Dies at 79 in Dorchester Residence
Colonel William D. Crockett 79 a respected city resident died Saturday at his Wayland street Dorchester home. He long served as foreman of the state printing office and was known in political and newspaper circles from Barnstead New Hampshire to Boston. He began printing as a boy in Dover and worked for the Sentinel and Gazette in Boston later on. He also served as assistant foreman on the Boston Journal and ran a weekly paper in Somersworth New Hampshire before nine years with the Boston Herald. He captained the Dover Sword Guards and was an honorary member of the Franklin Typographical Society.
