Towns end man shot in Shawmut Wheeler corner fracas

John Townsend an 8% year old colored man was shot in the abdomen at the Shawmut avenue and Wheeler street corner last night about 10 30 by an unknown colored man. Townsend is listed as dangerous at City Hospital. The assailant fled toward Tremont after the quarrel with Townsend over a woman named Edlie Smith. Police detained several others and sought the shooter as Inspector Kelly led the investigation.

Bold hold up on Newland and Rutland streets

Two men Nelson and Brown were robbed of about 100 in cash and jewelry after three young men attacked them on Newland near Rutland. They were beaten during the assault and the robbers fled with a wad of cash 40 from Nelson and 8 plus a gold watch from Brown. No clues to the attackers were found.

Senators Wolcott of Colorado and Gorman of Maryland and Congressman Boutelle of Maine spent the day in Boston. Wolcott arrived late and retired at the Brunswick after his journey. Gorman, recently at Magnolia, stayed at the Thorndike and left for New York to join the Saratoga Tammany conference. Boutelle stayed at the Touraine and departed for Maine in the evening.
