A defective culvert on the Union Pacific at Weston Nebraska caused a bridge collapse during a freight train move. Engineer Mitchell was killed, Switchman Conklin fatally injured, and Engineer Morgan crippled for life. Five men were trapped in debris. two others survived unhurt. Heavy rain washed out culvert supports.
The British fleet began sea maneuvers from Spithead Portsmouth today. In the departure two warships the Black Prince and the Invincible collided off Spithead causing damage to both. Black Prince a 9210 ton armor plated screw iron ship with 5770 horsepower and 28 guns. Invincible a 7600 ton armor plated twin screw iron ship with 4830 horsepower and 20 guns.
