A feud dating from last fall between Theodore C. Mowry and Elmer E. Mowry over a horse trade ends in tragedy near Woonsocket North Smithfield. Theodore shoots Elmer with a shotgun and then wounds himself with a revolver. Both men survive initially but are not expected to live. Theodore is married with eight children. Elmer is unmarried. They share a surname but are not related. Theodore hails from Lincoln. Elmer from North Smithfield.

Ex Superintendent of Streets Charles Harris is rusticating for a few weeks on Alderman Hall's farm in New Hampshire. The present inspector of milk, Mr Davenport, who began duties May 1, has issued over 3000 certificates since taking his position. He has made a thorough personanvass of the
Secretary Lincoln reportedly promotes surviving Greely party members Brederbeck and Carroll to sergeants while Brainard Frederick and Long will be commissioned as second lieutenants. Greely declines a captaincy, awaiting the ordinary process. He is to report to Washington around November 1 for a year of duty.

Lewis R Martin was convicted of forgery and sentenced to 10 years in state prison. Aldermen finance committee reports city and county real and personal property valued at $1 338 298 343 up $41 621 179 from 1883. Tribune fresh air fund sent 50 children to Montrose Point and 25 to Spring Valley for two weeks.
Frank E. Phillips, a bookkeeper for Builders iron foundry, was jailed in default of 5000 surety to appear before the grand jury in September on embezzlement charges. Over four years he inflated payrolls, totaling about 12000 dollars. he confessed and said he spent the money on speculation while living frugally.
