Miss Elsie M. Davis Found Clinging to Tree

Bethel Me August 3 Miss Elsie M. Davis the Bethel church organist who vanished last Sunday was found about 4 pm in a pine tree near Howe Hill three miles from Bethel. She clung to upper branches in a collapsed state as searchers moved quickly to reach her. Shoes stockings coat and shirtwaist were recovered nearby and landowner Fred L Edwards with Charles E Stowell found the hiding place within an hour.

Local searchers find exhausted young woman rescued

A feeble young woman, weakened by hunger and exhaustion, was carried home by doctors who were summoned when searchers found her clothing. News of the incident spread quickly through town as the population learned of the rescue.
