Investigators across city county state and federal lines traced the blast to a device made from a ten inch iron pipe ends and two five gallon gas cans filled with flammable liquid. The Lawler home in Wilshire district suffered severe fire smoke injuries as Mr and Mrs Lawler were rescued and their son and nurse saved. Doctors say Mrs Lawler is likely to recover and Mr Lawler has about even chances of recovery.

George W. Leavitt aged 62, a prominent horse breeder and dealer, died at his home 15 Hamilton Street Hyde Park after a three month illness. He had spent 35 years raising blooded horses and ran a large Kentucky stock farm, traveling to major tracks across the United States. He bore ties to notable figures such as August Belmont Pittsburg Phil and other race track personalities. Born February 11, 1857 in Pembroke Maine, he moved to Hyde Park 21 years ago.
