New York American pitcher Carl Mays remains suspended by American League President Ban Johnson for refusing to pay a fine. Yankee officials move to seek injunctions to restrain him from blocking New York usage of players and facilities as the dispute deepens into a potential league-wide conflict.
Hercules Korgis nicknamed New England's Sergeant York led a trapped enemy unit while prisoner and silenced a German officer by promising victory then guided his captors to surrender. The incident described recounts how Hun forces followed his lead into a rifle fire trap.

An aerial clash over Nantasket Beach yesterday left Lt. Wesley L. Smith of San Francisco ejected into the sea. His plane spun out of control and was almost totally wrecked. he escaped with a gash over his left eye after being rescued by friends on the shore.

Mildred Murphy 21 of 46 Woodward St South Boston died at St Elizabeths Hospital after an auto accident at Commonwealth Ave and Cheswick Rd Brighton. She fell from a moving car and struck her head sustaining a skull fracture. Driver was Charles King of Wellington St Waltham with passengers Agnes Finnerty and Charles McKenna.

The Greek-born American, Lynn resident, is a hero among the Second Division and the 23d Infantry, admired for individual prowess by all enlistees despite his scrambled English.

John Galarneau aged 30 of 1m street fell from the third floor front piazza railing while carrying his one year old niece. He landed on the concrete sidewalk and died at Lawrence General Hospital within half an hour. The baby escaped injury.
Galarneau returning from an outing grabbed his niece Grace Hicks and allegedly swayed toward a railing. In sight of his sister he toppled over the rail, the infant slipping free and rolling away as he landed on his back. The mother notes the child often tries to break free from arms.
