A Georgia watermelon cutting drew about eight thousand people in Copley square Boston with no admission tickets. Delegates to an ad men convention shared tables with sailors from the U S S Georgia and city workers. Each melon was split into four pieces and everyone enjoyed the fruit.
Master of Ceremonies Fred Houser leads the start as melons arrive from Quincy Market in steady loads beginning at 6 o clock, continuing for several hours. The event marks a lively community food drive and market opening.

An eight year old boy, Robert Mclain, was saved from drowning in Ell Pond Melrose after his steel go cart toppled overboard. Bartholomew O'Brien pulled him from the water as the craft coasted along Crystal street near Melrose and Main streets. The boy is the son of Kenneth Mclain.
A boy riding a go cart veered off Main street and plunged into a pond beside the Y M C A bathing beach. O'Brien the track oiler dived six times to reach the boy, later aided by Daniel Foley life guard and Patrolman Reardon. Dr Stratton revived him after 45 minutes. he was taken to Melrose Hospital and was reported likely to survive.
Donovan's Red Sox revived by strong play as they beat Detroit in a doubleheader. The spirited victories erased a season’s disappointments and showcased sharpshooting offense and solid defense, delivering momentum after weeks of struggle for Boston fans.

The Knights of Columbus meeting in Detroit elected officers led by James A. Flaherty of Philadelphia as supreme knight and Martin Carmoody of Grand Rapids as deputy supreme knight. William J. McGinley of New Haven became national secretary and D. J. Callahan of Washington was chosen treasurer.
Lynn police arrest five suspects as a special squad hunts three yeggmen who held up Frank Wing at his door last night and looted his home. All five men released after proving not to be the culprits.
Frank Wing, 22, said two masked men robbed him at his Maple Street residence after he saw a man on the lawn. He surrendered $6 under threat, while two more assailants searched the house and fled after warning him not to alert anyone. Police across neighboring towns were alerted and monitoring for the suspects.
Upton Sinclair and nine Arden Single Tax Colony members freed from Newcastle county workhouse after 18 hours for violating Sunday laws by playing sports. They endured five hours in a stone quarry. Sinclair and others call the experience an adventure. Professor Joseph Garrold plans to frame his daily tobacco plug. George Brown, who led the prosecutions, says the proceedings were satisfactory.
